SEND
At St Peter’s we believe every child is entitled to a broad, balanced and accessible curriculum, and to an education that enables them to achieve their best, grow in confidence and lead a fulfilling life.
The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice supports children and young people aged 0–25. Its main aim is to identify needs early and make sure the right support is put in place. Children, parents and carers are at the heart of this process and are involved in decisions about support and next steps. Families should also be well informed about the help and services available to them.
Our SEND Policy and SEND Information Report is underpinned by the Code of Practice and related law, including the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. These set out how schools support children with SEND, including the role of the SENCO and arrangements for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Our SENCO, Mr Jones, workis in school one day a week alongside our Head of School, Mrs Hall. Both of them are happy to help with any questions or concerns related to SEND. They can be contacted by emailing: senco@st-peters.school or the school office: office@st-peters.school.
Every class is supported by a teaching assistant each morning, and teachers adapt learning carefully to meet the needs of all children. Staff work tirelessly in partnership to ensure every learner is supported and able to make good progress. We regularly review pupils’ development and keep parents informed, with more frequent updates for children who need additional support.
We also work with specialist services when appropriate and place great importance on working closely with parents. While our website provides an overview of our SEND provision, we know that personal conversations and collaborative working are key to getting support right for each child. Clear communication is a priority, and parents receive Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that explain the support in place and the progress being made. Parents are fully involved in decisions about how best to support their child’s learning and development.
