PE & Sport Premium
All children and young people should live healthy active lives. The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend that all children and young people should take part in moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity for at least 60 minutes every day.
To support this, since 2013 the government has provided funding to schools to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport activities offered to pupils. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on sustainable improvements. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils this year received £16,000 plus an additional payment of £10 per pupil. At St. Peter’s this equates to £16,520.
Schools are expected to prioritise PE and Sport premium spending to improve in the following 5 key areas:
- increasing staff confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport;
- increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport;
- raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement;
- offering a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils; and
- increasing participation in competitive sport.
At St. Peter’s, our wide range of extra-curricular activities and strong sporting tradition are just two of the things that attract families to our vibrant village school therefore we have continually sought to widen participation and the opportunities, including clubs and competitions, offered to all our children. We are extremely proud that in July 2023, the school was officially awarded the Platinum School Games Mark for the second time! This was awarded in recognition of our commitment to and the development of sport and competition across the school. It truly is a fantastic achievement for all involved!
