Library Grand Opening!

On Thursday 3rd March, World Book Day, we were delighted to welcome some very special visitors to the grand opening of our new school library!  After many years of fundraising and hard work, a special service was held to mark this wonderful event before the official ribbon and cake cutting.  During the event our Headteacher, Mr Savage, shared the story of Andrew Carnegie, 'The Man who Loved Libraries', written by Andrew Larsen.  He also shared excerpts from ‘Mr Dilly Says…’ where friend of the school, Marcus Dilly, interviews authors and poets.  February’s broadcast, seen by hundreds of schools, was filmed in our wonderful new library and included interviews with several of our pupils, plus a special message to us from Alison Tarrant, the CEO of the School Library Association. This incredible feat would simply not have been possible if it were not for the tireless efforts of our Friends of St. Peter’s School (FOSPS), our school community and a number of companies who donated including CO-OP and Southern Sheeting. Collectively they have raised funds for, amongst other things, new laptop computers, iPads and of course, the fixtures and fittings in the library!  The library opening and Book Week celebrations will continue into next week with visiting authors, a bedtime story event and of course all classes spending time in the library!
